Technology...You Gotta Love It!!

I am planner; each day is actually started the evening before.  I mentally make a plan at what I am going do the next day.  I basically have a routine which I am loyal too.  The moment I wake-up and my feet hit the floor I start fulfilling my plan.  I guess you might say, I become a fine tuned robot.  And then technology comes in to play.  I consider myself fairly knowledgeable.  I mean I can drive a car but does not mean I can build an engine.  So, my knowledge is learnt through trial and error, which just to make note my life experiences is basically has been the same.

This very Monday my plan was to design a website for an associate.  Her business is assisting non-profit businesses in fundraising.  Probably most are aware “Google” offers free website design templates.  I mean what could go wrong I have designed websites from “Google” before, “right?”  My associate chose her design that complimented her business; she had her domain name and the text as well.  The designs from “Google” are from web designers.  And some of the designers may make the design free, but they are not user-friendly.  (Just a thought; don’t you love those words “user-friendly” I do, I can use them out of content of technology, “the saleswoman was user-friendly.”)  Back to the website, this is what happened; the web template was not user-friendly and the designer wanted you to have them help you for a fee. When I stop and think back when my associate and I went through all the designs “Google” offered I remember seeing certain ones used more than others, now I know why.  They were user-friendly.

Then came Tuesday, my plan was to get my “Publisher” software up and running.  In January I purchase “Outlook.”  Along with “Outlook” Microsoft gave me “Publisher” did not give it much thought about using it at the time.  Now that I am writing and assisting others with monthly newsletters I decide this would be excellent.  The product key number they gave me did not work.  I called the support line to talk with someone who could help me.  This was at 8:15 am in the morning.  After being disconnected or hung-up three times and going through multiple times of being transferred, three hours later no resolution.  I even went to where you can chat with someone online and they walk you through what you are supposed to do, her name was “Summer,” still no resolution. Since, my patience was on empty I left and met with my associate to resolve her problem with her computer another precious moment with technology.  I can only tell you how thankful I was and how simple the resolution to her needing more memory made me feel to know another day had not been wasted.  My plan was to go work-out after assisting her; and yet I was taunted by the fact I had not got my software up and running.  Yes, you are right I went home and proceed with getting on the phone, you guessed, “Microsoft.”  I decided I needed to be more assertive (more ballsy gal, according to the dictionary; who isn’t afraid of anyone) or even perhaps demanding, using a strong voice of course, after waiting for 15 minutes for a human being to come on the phone, I informed her; “fixed this or giving me new software.”  A miracle happen, she fixed it.  It is now Wednesday…so far I am on schedule.
