Dating vs. Courting

Here I am at the time of my life or should I say here I am which should be the time of my life...single. How great is that!!! Free to do whatever I want and see anyone I want. The story I am sure is the same for all single people when it comes to meeting someone. Call me old fashion but it seems everyone is in a hurry to have a relationship. Let me think what is...the first step to meeting someone. Yes, you go online to one of those dating sites or meet at social events. Neither one of these places one would call safe. Dating sites consist of mostly people who claim they are one person and when you finally do meet them you cannot even recognize the person as being the person in the picture on the dating site. The second step in the process when you do find someone and go on the first date and then the second date only to fine the person is just wanting to be intimate and not wanting a serious relationship. So...you start over to the first step or you stay home, watch a romantic movie and wonder why it only happens in movies.

And then one day a man asked to court me. I literally had to look up the definition of courting to make sure I understood what he wanted from me. Courting; respect to the other person, to seek the affections of; especially: to seek to win a pledge of marriage from (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/courting ) I suddenly realized today when it comes to relationships we have forgotten something important we do not spend enough time in learning who the other person is...courting. We hurry along with rushing into the first step and then by the second step we are intimate before we know them. Perhaps, what we call old fashion is only simply being respectful toward another person by getting to know them.
